First Day of fighting, and was fine!

The day has started with a chilly sun and the skipper briefing with the “bad surprise” that the R.C. has split the fleets in 2 field: the number 1 (SW, between Oceanographic Museum and Cap Ail) for the big “peloton” of J70 and the Melges 20; the number 2 (NE, between under the tall skyscrape and the construction site of the new marina) for the rest H22, Smeralda888 and Longtze Premier.  So our dream of performance shoot-out has been written off.

Well, we can still say that the H22 is faster than the others two, the Smeralda is the most beautiful with her classic style (and their spinnakers decorated) and the slowest has been the multicolour dragon. Sorry guys and ladies.

As in charge to shoot the H22 class, and knowing them since the lake, they did the first 2 start very well aligned for all length.

At the mark the fleet is still pack together, while on downwind the small differences in setting and crew-work divide the participants. Marco said that they are “inchiodati” (n.d.t.stacked) going down.

On the podium: we find the podium of the Coppa Italia with a switch for the last place, bringing two Italian champions tie and the third with just 5 point more. Also in forth position, the newest hull of the fleet Altatensione (we don’t feel the smell of new car because she’s a boat) with the champion Roberto and Alessandro is growing fast, they never give up.
The rest of participants are however happy of the weather (light wind 200-210/4-10[kts] waves normal) and the fact the boat allows “gentlemen skipper” to fight each others without heavy investment in money and time (even if I’m working for them, till now I’ve assisted a fair-play and fun atmosphere).
The majority of the class has decided to close the day visiting the iconic “Café de Turin” seafood restaurant in Nice.
Tomorrow second day of challenge, in particular with wind.

Results: stage 2, races 3
  1. ITA-143 Splinter Roberto Iorio (5=1;1;3)
  2. ITA-119 Adrenalina Benedetto Di Venosta (5=2;2;1)
  3. ITA-136 Pobeda Marco Frigerio (10=3;3;4)
Stay Tuned!!!
