Final day
Yesterday we went to bed with some questions in mind, and wake up didn’t help, because clouds arrived!!!
But the breeze was active with some clusters of rain are around.
Considering the situation of points it was clear that today the fight would be hot.
The first departure has seen the class slide to start on the pin but however well distributed on the line with ITA-143 takes the leader. Quite soon the field has showed an advantage on the coastal side and on mark 1 the Italian champion in charge has keep the lead followed by ITA-119 and the rest of the fleet.
The last race had a departure in the centre thanks to the “Dynamic Mark” (developed by the YCM) and has show the three boats of the podium already in hunting mood. At the first upwind mark the lead was in the hand of the president of the class ITA-123 and the rest of hunters behind very hungry.
The final race has won by the president sealing so the end of the war.
So do we have answers to the questions we had in the night???
The first one: yes, the ex-italian champion has kept the first place, she has shown her historical palmares (Italian champ.s and Italian Cups…).
The second one: not, the Italian champ. try all but it couldn’t catch it.
The last question: not, but the expectation for the future are very high for the new lady.
Summary of the event can be very positive for the H22 Class, it’s alive and well in health, maybe they are not moving/growing fast as the J70 is doing, but considering the environment of the alpine lakes (Lecco/Como and Garda) and the “virtual comparing” test happened at the event, I could image that the future of sailing can be driven by J70 and H22 as the J24 and Meteor Classes did for the last period (with the Melges family on parallel course), waiting to understand the storm/wild-west-cowboy of the foiling solutions.
Next event of the class is back in the sweet home-water of the Lago di Lecco for the begin of the main season “18° Trofeo Città di Valmadrera”.

The second departure recorded 2 boats OCS (5 time world champ. on board included), These need to recover immediately to don’t loose the contact with the others. Also the fight was on fire in match-race style, making my shooting and driver time harder for the continuous sudden tactical tacks made.
From this race, won by the leader of the standing, it’s clear that the boat Leo's (a.k.a. B. Venosta) it’s faster than the others and ITA-201, the last launch in July, is growing in speed too, considering the false start and she closed forth. |
