IX Interlaghina 2021 - Optimist: Galletti scalpitano davanti alle Stelle (n.d.t.: Cockerels pawing in front of the Stars)

It’s the end of October and the sailing season is closing with the last two classics, and this weekend its babies time: Interlaghina (Small Interlake) for the Optimist Class.
Still missing the Russian fleet (d/t restrictions… stupid adults) and recovering from COVID, the event this year has 102 young sailors, from Italy and the near Switzerland, they have invaded the water of the Lago di Lecco.

On the water not only them but also three Stars, and others champions (now fathers): Massimo “Ciccio” Canali (R.O. on the finish line), Stefano Lillia and Torben Grail (yeah I spent more time with Torben than my family in the last 2 months).

The weather is autumn, so the southerly Breva has been hazed and gentle max 7[kts], the R.C. and the stewards have made a great job, 2 races, the last with a huge change of the field to manage the shift in direction.

For my driver, a great emotion when his daughter has sailed the first race from the pin to the mark on left tack and finishing first (big pressure to be on the homefield).
In the second race, started under Black Flag (a smart choice to not loose time with false starts), another dad has had happy time, Ettore G.B. Lillia has conduct the fleet till the downwind leg and finished 3rd on his modern hull.

Cantieri Lillia can go to sleep very happy, in the Cadets class, the leader, Gloria Ruffoni, is sailing with a brand new LJK21 (actually while I was shooting I noticed a better acceleration capability of this design).

Thanks to all volunteers and some local sponsors, and the main event sponsor Galletto Valleslpuga (yup, cockerel) and Chocolate maker ICAM, all sailors have had a sweet afternoon snack.

Everyone is hoping that tomorrow morning (-7h) the northerly wind Tivano will come down from the valley and will push the races to the next level!

Update 2022Jan05: At moment I cannot provide report about the second day d/t restrictions of time I had in that moment, however images are here.
