Xmas Regatta Day2: REGATTAS for expert chisellers!

Meteo: iconic winter sunny day Niçoise, light breeze, sunny, still the “big” long waves but less choppy. All damaged boats are back on the filed ready to fight (ok, missing the Monegasque with the mast broken)!

Both departure were good and “smooth”, the first regatta has been nominal, nearly boring with Diego and Sergio dominating it, as I suggested yesterday, the duo Coppo-Bradanini “sono in palla” (n.d.t.: are on the ball) reaching the 2nd place, 3rdthe Austrian Kloiber-Fischer third.
The breeze is relaxing, so time it’s running and immediately the R.C make small adjustments.
On the first mark surprise, the other Italian duo is leading, Viti-Cattaneo followed on left tack the Swiss-Portuguese Eckert-Melo, Diego and Sergio are well behind.

But now it’s downwind time, hard time! The breeze has shifted and lost pressure. The first boats decide to go left, while AUT-8508 decides for the straight short line, on this way, a couple of time we didn’t know if they were able walk. On the other-side: More complicate, some of the first were obliged to go far and at a point someone has had to remove the boom and sails in gran-lasco (reaching)… at the mark surprise Diego and Sergio are first, followed in distance by the Austrian and the Swss and a new guest, the American.
...Ahhh mean while the wind dropped more and the field was shorted. And this is the end! Even if the last upwind is still difficult, the right route is the left part of the field, Diego has kept the leadership.

Last hot moment has been the finish line to be crossed: a big lesson of Physics: conservation of the Momentum, unluckily we are witness of it: all boat without enough speed has lost distance and was overtaken by the closest “enemy”while trying to tack.
After the finish line Diego and Sergio were very happy.
