Day3 - 64° Xmas Regatta: Un’altra medaglia per l’Italia, better 2, correction 2x2medals (with the song ‘Seven Nation Army' by The White Stripes as soundtrack in background)

Ok, ok explanation of the title: a thread of healthy nationalistic football sports cheer, on the wave of sportive success which Italy has widely collected this year.

After the dinner with the traditional tombola yesterday evening, the day this morning started with an other red-purple sky of cirrus, and meeting Diego on the way to the club, responding me with that simple calm and firmness typical of the mood of established champions

Mean while the setting up for the race, the sky has become a grey-blue layer of clouds, not those will bring bad weather, but enough to stop the thermal breeze, also connectedn to the melting snow on the peaks. However, the R.C. has found a field and the dance has started. The wind never over-passed 6-7[kts] even when finally our closest star (n.d.a.: SUN) was clear, actually it has totally killed the breeze and the second race has been closed with 0-1[kts].

The first race started with all fleet compressed on the R.C. boat, maybe in 1/2-3/4 of the starting line, the field has been very technical, and make the wrong route could generate  difficult moments, like FRA-8328 After Math Chaboud-Ruppert has discovered crossing the field from the left and finding the lay line busy “come la tangenziale”, the other side; the  first Italian duo on the mark today, has splitter with ITA-8557 Coppo-Bradanini more right/inside of the filed, while ITA-8567 Negri-Lambertenghi has jibed and continued on the left.

One result, Diego and Sergio alone in first position on the finish line (like L. Hamilton) with the rest of the fleet struggling to catch them. And this has closed the story. Diego and Sergio at this point after the on-water interview has left the field with a DNS, as it would be discharged.
Till now I didn’t speak about, but the last step of the podium was fragile and the Italian boat has had to fight with the Swiss and Austrian to keep it, and the last race with less and less wind has been an “all in”.

At the departure again the fleet decided to stay on the R.C. but a small “alpine” group has taken advantages from the momentum using all the rest of line, bringing them to rejoin in front the rest of the boats on the right size part of field.

Giovanni^2 have made a great downwind and sluggish upwind, that with the second place, they have reached the third place of the race and consolidating the third place over-all (really a pity that UFD on the first race… because they were even with the second). Really an awesome result to be the first “normal” gentlemen crew just behind on the podium to the World champion and European champion!
Diego Neri and Sergio Lambertenghi have closed the year with the
title of French Champion and
Winner of the event and
of the Trophy Puisségur .

It’s been a pleasure to close this crazy season of sailing (or just restart it, in 1 week Optimist in Monaco, a Laser race in February on my lago di lecco and a very late the Primo Cup in march…) with the family spirit of the Star Class and of the Club Nautique de Nice, I hope to be here next year for the 65° edition as I did for the 60°, and more important without the spectrum of the pandemia, and a huge number of “STARS” as boat as champions (and maybe also as an academic confrontation between the Folli and Lilia boats…)

Buon Anno a tutti!

Update 2021Dec31@21:00UTC: Sorry, I did a mistake d/t late night, Diego Negri and Sergio Lambertenghi didn't win the District 9 championship because Italy is District 14 (Mid-Mediterranean, a.k.a.: Italy and Greece)
the Winner of the District 9th Championship is
Hans Stöckli and Alex Gouda
