If I totally believe and support the event the club is doing for a decade, as my academic background shows with the time spent around the Europe that reached the peak with the EUROAVIA Design Workshop hosted by Rolls Royce, I always by-passed it from my targets because it’s an academic item (for nerd/geeks stuff). However the club has made a great work to bring it at a higher level of notoriety.
 In this view (probably a COVID effect), the live-stream on YouTube has diverted my attention to it, and this year I spent the noon (for now) around the docks after the morning to listen the lecture/round-tables.

In the EA DeWo-RR event I had the possibility to study hydrogen fuel-cell and in general energy management (ahhh, it was 2007), and as I’ve already noted during the boat shows in the fall, the boat world is quite late and “refrattario" to shift to new ecological energy.
This it can be noted in the first day of lecture where only the last introducing panel about hydrogen, has showed some step forward.
In particular the technology from HySiLabs, a way to transport the gas in a liquid state
Another company to underline is the solar panel from Solbyan, they can make white solar panel (ok with a huge lost efficiency, but if you want style…)
Also on the layout of the boats made by the students I didn’t see better signals the configurations were quite “common” and optimised: “students and profs we need INNOVATION and FRESH NEW IDEAS!”

On the liquid side of the event, at moment three boat are under the spotlight (theirs performance will come out from Friday:
  • the Swiss: strange asymmetric catamaran;
  • the Portuguese: a near monohull with 2 side-skid in front, very elegant rounded shapes
  • the last one, finally the “dreamed” E1 motorboat Class, do you remember that thing presented in Monaco last year, which looks like a TIE/IN interceptor from Star Wars???

Yes after the ride in Venezia, it appeared in Monaco riding some practise. From what looks like high-speed cameras pods on both side, the racing device is still in science mood, we will see (but in my visceral opinion the collaboration with the creator of Formula E and Extreme-X cars series it’s not a good thing, but maybe I’m just old…).
A trend merged is that tenders will be electric and others boat will be too so the “tourist” will be allowed to get in some marine sanctuary where oil derivate engine cannot go.
