Few minutes ago I closed the report of the day 3, I checked the forecast and there was a positive upgrade in wind speed, expectation were growing.
Luckily the road to the port was not closed or full of queue (in the near village of Cagne sur Mer, there was some activities those block the road), but the expectations were falling down d/t a heavy layer of low cloud.

The R.C. has hoisted the AP Flag as soon as possible; however just before the 11:00UTC, the big boats have crossed the starting line.
The track is the 9 one of the shorter (17.5[NM]), the line and the disengage mark has given some advantage at the Pin, however two tactics were possible:
  • start from right tac, running all the line till the Pin and pushing the others to do the same and tac to left (port) to make Z inside the bay when convenient, or
  • as some tried, with relative success, to cross the line with left tac, running into the inside zone of the bay (Plage de la Salis) but tac back to right before the no wind shear zone. On the staring-line the wind was very slow, and some of the old ladies have taken more than 3 minutes to be able to cross it (they didn’t fallen in the disqualification zone).

Back to the port for the lunch and deliziarmi con un fantastico panino all’italiana and be tortured by the view and the fragrance of the spaghetti al tartufo that the chef of the Italian “Boutique di cibarie” has prepared for others costumers.

Observation: actually I don’t like these kind of stops (as in the port or on the water) but it’s a compromise with what the organisation and volunteers can offer, and to have a driver that gives me the opportunity to make the pictures I want is a priority; all drivers in Antibes are really good and safe, and it’s great that the organization give us these press-boats and the opportunity to others colleagues and photo-amateur to get on the water, however for me is “sad” not be out with the sailors, if they are out without engine, I must be there.

The time we are back and the stage is like usual, windy and super saturated with cumulus clouds growing around: uno spettacolo!

As I as sailors have had a lot of fun on the mark for the last upwind leg: Cambria was così leggiadra that doesn’t need to use the gennaker, the P-Class and SCUD and Chinook (from distance) have fought all the downwind and upwind, FRA-35998 Encounter and 62 Manitou have made their haul-down the spinnaker complicate, the rest were surfing with theirs coloured spinnakers.

All of us, I think that also Mr. LunaRossa (he arrived like all good sailor Sunday early morning), will bring at home, with the first place of SCUD at the first participation at LVA, a great memory of the 27th LVA.

How the team of the LVA is able to make event and control the weather year by year is a mystery, with life near to the normality (yes we are back to June and hugs), with some missing boats and teams (ci mancate), the event has been a success again!
Now for me it’s time to meet another great team with their huge regatta, The Giraglia!
