After the classic “dose” in Antibes, today the belly, in Saint Tropez, is full of the most powerful modern yachts ever made: Maxi and Wally100!

To join me, finally, my colleague M. for the video, her first time on the sea and in Serie A of the sailing regattas.
To make our job very easy and safe, the driver S. really a master of the R.I.B.

Ohh yes the most important change you can notice around, the new main sponsor: Loro Piana has took over from the green gold watch factory (some “voci di sentina” to be confirmed, summarising say the divorce was not kind).

The change has keep all the good things that makes the Giraglia, The mediterranean Sailing Race, and has brought a wind improves from the fashion world, keeping that style of elegance you will expect from a Italian couture. Sometime all we assault sailing shooters feel a kind of need to be a little more stylish, and you feel all around that it’s a good upgrade, like our Media Centre (not press room) with white environment and delicate details like sofas and lockers and design brown office chairs…

Unfortunately the French weather didn’t collaborate: yesterday sunny and hot, today a very light drizzle full of sand from the desert (my pour old bicycle was covered of yellow dots, as the R.I.B.) with a very far photogenic grey sky all day (at least no rain after the 10:30L).

Meanwhile the “normal” fleet was racing from the bay, the big boat as usual, 2 race on racetrack in front the Pampelone beach with the departure and the finish line in the middle (about 3NM of axis).

The first race has been affected by shifting wind, while the second the usual breeze, but not above 15kts.

Another feature of the day were the difficulties to hoist and lower the gennaker, in particular V CAY 111 has been obliged to cut and leave in the water it, yes we have pictures of it. A possible cause of these difficulties is spotted in some events like TP52 in Newport and the Italian championship next week in Brindisi and 12mIJ world championship in Porqueroll; I also notice many recover the sail passing over the boom of the main sail.

Now we have to know and wait if Sunday will be wet down ad up and not like last year flooded…

If many “male lingue invidiose" are trying to mine the prestigious of the old regatta, they have underestimate the power of the entities involved, and at moment I see a race improved and ready to step up!
